Vestry

What is a vestry? The vestry is the governing board of the parish, consisting of the priest, treasurer, and twelve elected church members. The word vestry originally referred to the room where the priest put on their vestments. Because church leaders would often meet there to discuss the affairs of the parish with the priest, the term eventually came to refer to the group which governs the parish. The vestry’s primary responsibilities include:

  • Oversight of the parish finances and property

  • choosing individuals to fill positions of leadership and representation (such as convention delegates and committee chairs)

  • serving as an advisory council to the priest

All Saint’s vestry members serve three-year terms, with four members “rolling off” and four new members elected each year. Each vestry member is assigned as liaison to one major parish committee, serving as a touchpoint and communication go-between to help keep the vestry as a whole apprised of the committee’s activities. The current vestry members are:

  • Darlene Meloche, Senior Warden and Finance chair

  • Jimmy Eubanks, Junior Warden and Properties chair

  • Pierce Christie, Clerk of the Vestry and Personnel liaison

  • Barbara Attaway, Christian Education liason

  • Hank Cordes, Long Range Planning liaison

  • Sally Engels, Memorials liaison

  • Marcia Fussell & Sisam Wynn, Partnering as liaisons for Fellowship Ministries, to include Foyers; Men’s Ministries; Newcomer/Hospitality ministries; ECW, DOK; College of Congregational Development

  • Ellen Strait, Communications liaison

  • Shelley Strickland, Outreach liaison

  • Susan Wimset, Stewardship liaison
